1841: In 1841 Francis (35, agricultural labourer) and Elizabeth (35) Kendrick were living at Whitwell, Derbyshire with their three children Maria (10), Joseph (5), and John (2). All are noted as having been born in the same county. Miles, aged 11, was in Whitwell, but living elsewhere and working as an agricultural labourer.

1851: The family was residing at Furnace Hill, Whitwell, Derbyshire. Francis Webster (aged 43) was a farmer’s labourer and Elizabeth was 44. Living with them were children Elizabeth (10, scholar) and Lucy (10, scholar). Miles (age 20) was working as a servant for the Bland family in Great Barlow, Derbyshire.

1861: The family was still residing at Furnace Hill, Whitwell, Derbyshire. Francis Webster, aged 55 was an agricultural labourer and Elizabeth was aged 55. Living with them was daughter Elizabeth (21, chip box maker). Miles does not appear in this census and would soon be exiting the country. Joseph had migrated to Australia by 1855.

1871: Francis was still residing at Furnace Hill, Whitwell, Derbyshire. By this time Francis (62, agricultural labourer) was living with his second wife Mary (aged 60) and his brother in law Matthew Baxter (aged 64, agricultural labourer). Francis is listed as having been born at Whitwell, while Mary and Matthew’s birthplace was Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. Miles had migrated to Australia in 1863.

1881: The residence is now listed as Furnace Lane, Whitwell, Derbyshire. Francis (73, labourer) was living with Mary (aged 74) and his brother in law Matthew Baxter (aged 74, unmarried, gentleman) is now listed as merely a lodger. A further lodger also appears at the address – Sidney Archer (aged 23, unmarried, coalminer, born Chesterfield, Derbyshire).
