Death notice

In 1841 Joseph was aged 5 and living with his parents at Whitwell. In 1851 he was aged 16 and working as a farm servant at Staveley, Derbyshire for a man named George Steele, who had an agricultural holding of 38 acres.

Some time between 1851 and 1855 he migrated to Australia, though further details of his migration are unclear.

On her marriage certificate, Elizabeth declared she was a spinster, that her surname was Cashen, and that her father’s name was James Cashen. On Mary’s 1857 birth certificate she is listed as ‘Elizabeth Webster, formerly Cashen’. By 1864, on Francis’ birth certificate she appears as ‘Elizabeth Webster, formerly Gatliffe’.

There is a marriage registered in Victoria in 1854 of Elizabeth Getliffe to James Cashen.
