On 28 Mar 1828 at Ashchurch, Gloucestershire, Thomas previously married Sarah Baldwin (b. 1811) and they had four children:

Sarah died and was buried at Birtsmorton on 30 Jul 1843.

Elizabeth traveled to Australia in 1879 with her son Joseph aboard the ship Devon. In c1881 she married William CARSELDINE and there were no children from this marriage.

Census Notes
1841: In 1841 Thomas (30, bricklayer) and Sarah (nee Baldwin) (30) Kendrick were living at Coombe Green, Birtsmorton with their four children William (13), Charles (6), Richard (4) and Maria (2). Nearby were Thomas’ parents Thomas (55, shoemaker) and Ann (50) living at ‘Birch Hall’.
Other neighbours included Richard (25, bricklayer) and Elizabeth (25) Kendrick and their five young children, as well as Susanna Payne (45, agricultural labourer) and her four children Mary (20), Sarah (12), William (10) and Joseph (9).
1851: The family was residing at Coombe Green, Birtsmorton. Thomas Kendrick (aged 46?) was a masons’ labourer and Elizabeth was 27. Living with them were children Charles (17), Maria (12, scholar), Mary (aged 4) and Henry (aged 3). All residents were surnamed Kendrick (though unfortunately indexed in Ancestry as ‘Kendrew’). All were born at Birtsmorton, except for Charles and Maria, who were both born at Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.
(There was another Kendrick family residing in Coombe Green in 1851, a Bernard Kendrick (also a masons’ labourer) and his wife Elizabeth, and their seven children)
1861: The family was still residing at Coombe Green, Birtsmorton. Thomas Kendrick was a brickmaker and Elizabeth was a glove maker. Living with them were daughters Maria (single, aged 21) and Mary (aged 13), sons Henry (aged 9), Alfred (aged 6) and Arthur (aged 1, who would) as well as a granddaughter Ellen (aged 6 months). All residents of the house were surnamed Kendrick, and all had been born in Birtsmorton. The daughters were engaged in glove making with their mother and the two older sons were scholars.
1871: The family was still residing at Coombe Green, Birtsmorton. Thomas was still bricklaying and Elizabeth had no occupation listed. Living with them were their children Mary (23, gloveress), Alfred (16, bricklayer), Arthur (11, scholar), Annie (9, scholar), Joseph (6, scholar), Alice (4, scholar) and Louise (aged 1). All residents of the house were surnamed Kendrick and all had been born in Birtsmorton.
By the time of the next census in 1881, Thomas Kendrick had passed away and Elizabeth had moved to Australia. |
