Death of Mrs- John Davies. A RESIDENT POR FORTY YEARS.
On Thursday morning last, after an illness of about eight weeks, the death occurred at her residence, Green street, Cobar, of Mrs Caroline Davies, wife of Mr John Davies, and. one of the oldest residents of the district.
The news of her demise, when it became known, was received with sincere regret by all who knew her, especially among the older identities.
The deceased lady came to Cobar about forty years ago, and at the time of her death was 58 years of age. For many years she was tho licensee of Tattersall’s Hotel but retired from hotel life to live privately some years ago. She always held largo interests in the town, and in the early days was an active worker for the Cobar Hospital as well as all other charitable movements, while as a friend she was never known to refuse to assist those in need; and was also a generous contributor to the Church of England. The late Mrs Davies was thrice married, her previous husbands, James Budd and Thomas Smith, predeceasing her.
The funeral took place on Thursday afternoon, the remains being laid at rest in the Church of England portion at the cemetery, Yen. Archdeacon Haviland officiating at the graveside. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr T. Owen.
Deceased leaves a sorrowing husband (Mr John Davies) and a grown up family (Miss Rose Budd and Messrs James, Harry and George Budd), to whom much sympathy is extended in their great loss.

 Obituary and headstone: William Budd

Once again, we find it our duty to have to record the death of a young Cobarite, a man who has been here since childhood, and who took ill some four weeks ago and was taken to the Cobar Hospital. His complaint was typhoid but it was in such a mild form that it did not cause his friends and relatives any concern until the early part of this week when he took a turn for the worse, and it was given out that he could not possibly live. The worst fears were realised about midday on Wednesday when he passed away, the immediate cause of death being peritonitis. The deceased out the Cobar District, being a son of Mrs. J. Davies, of Wrightville, formerly Tattersall’s Hotel. The funeral was to have taken place on Thursday afternoon at about 4.30p.m. We tender our sincere sympathy to the bereaved mother and relatives.

Obituary: Harry Oswald Budd

BUDD. — At Sydney, on May 2nd, 1919, Harry Oswald Budd, aged
35 years, the beloved husband of Elsie Olive and father of Everald Irene and Harry James.
(Western Age, 9 May 1919, p.2)

Mr. HARRY BUDD.
The ‘flu epidemic is already taking its toll of Cobar citizens who have ventured to the metropolis, and this was brought home in a staggering manner when news was received on Saturday morning of the death of Mr Harry Oswald Budd. Deceased who was the picture of health left Cobar a few weeks ago, and stayed
at his sister’s residence, Ithaca House, Elizabeth Bay. Some ten days ago he contracted a slight cold, which was not taken seriously. On Thursday his condition was bad and medical aid was sought, when it was found he had the dreaded pneumonic-influenza in its worst form. He gradually got worse and passed away shortly after 11 o’clock on Friday night.
The late “Harry” Budd was a native of Yanda Creek, near Cobar, and was 35 years of age. He was one of the best known men in the district, and although following the occupation of an engine driver, he had a wide connection as a bookmaker and ‘layer of the odds.’
He leaves a widow and two little children (Everald, aged 8, and Harry, aged 5), as well as two brothers (Mr James Budd, Cobar, and Mr George Budd, Sydney), and one sister (Miss Rose Budd, Sydney), for whom general sympathy is expressed in their painfully unexpected bereavement.
