Obituaries of Mary Teresa Worthington (nee Byrne)
| AN old resident of Lake George, Mrs Worthington, died at her daughter’s residence, Redfern, Sydney, on the 11th instant, aged seventy-eight. Mrs Worthington who was a native of Sydney came from Appin with her late husband, Mr James Worthington, to Kenny’s Point, Lake George, and settled there in 1839. They reared a family of six sons and six daughters, all married, ten of whom are living—six sons and four daughters, seventy grand-children, and twenty-one great-grand-children. Mr Patrick Byrne of Collector is a brother, and Mrs Quilter of Junee and Mrs Crowe of Gobarralong, Gundagai, sisters of the deceased. Mrs F.R. Mannell and Mrs John Field of this city are daughters of Mrs Worthington. Amongst the grand-children of deceased are Mr F.W. Mannell B.A., head-master of Arncliffe public school near Sydney, and Mrs Edward Cunningham of Tarlo, son and daughter of Mr F.R. Mannell, just referred to. Mr Worthington, deceased’s husband, died six years ago at Cootamundra. The late Mrs John F. Kenny also was a sister of Mrs Worthington. (Goulburn Herald, 14 Dec 1896, p.2)* Death of an Old Resident.
It is our duty to record the death of a very old resident of Lake George, in the person of Mrs.
Worthington, relict of the late Mr James Worthington, grazier and farmer, of Kenny’s Point, Lake George. Mrs Worthington died on Friday last at the residence of her daughter, Mrs Doyle, of Redfern, Sydney, at the advanced age of 78 years. Deceased went to Sydney about 12 months ago, and was ill for about four months preceding death, senile decay being the cause. She had been a resident of Lake George for upwards of 58 years and she leaves a very large circle of relatives and friends. Her own family consists of six sons and four daughters, and besides there are 70 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Two of deceased’s daughters are Mrs F.R. Mannell and Mrs John Field, of Goulburn; and Mr Patrick Worthington, of Bungendore, is one of her sons.

OBITUARY MR JAMES WORTHINGTON.
A well-known resident of Cootamundra passed away at 6 o’clock on Monday night, in the person of Mr James Joseph Worthington, aged 76 years, at his home at the corner of Adams and Crown Streets. Deceased, whose wife predeceased him in May last, was previously a farmer, of ‘Thornhill,’ Frampton. He leaves a large family to mourn their loss — Al (Junee), Austin (Bethungra), Fred and Sid (Frampton), Hubert and Walter (Illabo), Mrs B. Hogan (Waverley), and Misses Addie and Agnes (Cootamundra). There are two brothers, one at Condoblin and the other at Barmedman.

Obituary. MR FRANK R. MANNELL. An old and well-known resident of Goulburn, died at his residence, Bourke-street, on Friday afternoon after an illness of about a fortnight. He had been in Goulburn and district over forty years. He was born in Cornwall in 1828, and came to this State in 1857. He was married to a Miss Worthington in St. Saviour’s old church in 1860 by the late Dean Sowerby. He subsequently resided at Wagga and Currawang. He is survived by a widow and two children—a son and a daughter. The former is an M.A. of the Sydney University, and is headmaster of the Superior Public Sohool at Manly. The daughter is Mrs E. Cunningham of Tarlo. Had he lived deceased would have been 77 years of age on Saturday last.

Mrs Mannel, relict of the late Mr F.R. Mannel of Goulburn, died at the residence of her son-in-law, Mr E. Cunningham of Tarlo, yesterday, aged sixty-six years. The remains were interred at Tarlo this afternoon.

One of the oldest and most highly respected residents of Bathurst, Mr Patrick J. Worthington, died at the residence of his daughter, Mrs Collis, at 113 Keppel Street last night. The deceased was a native of the Goulburn district, having been born at Collector, but had resided in Bathurst for the past quarter of a century. He was 83 years of age and had been ailing for some considerable time. He is survived by four sons Messrs. James (Sydney), Bert (Kurri Kurri), Percy Worthington (Orange), and Austin Worthington (Newcastle); three daughters, Mrs Collis (Bathurst), Mrs McGuinness (Sydney) and Mrs Edmonds (Sydney). Tho funeral of the late Patrick Joseph Worthington moved from the residence of his daughter, Mrs Collis, 113 Keppel Street, on Saturday afternoon for the Catholic portion of the Bathurst cemetery. The Rev Fr. Sullivan officiated at the chapel and graveside. The chief mourners were his four sons, Messrs. James, Bert, Percy and Austin, and three daughters, Mrs Collis, Mrs McInnes and Mrs Edmunds. The pallbearers were Messrs. Harry Collis, George Jones Selwyn Seage and Steve Willis. OLD IDENTITY GONE
Thomas Worthington, who passed away at his son’s residence, at West Pennant Hills, on Sunday last, was a resident of Dubbo in bygone days. He had an orchard in Fitzroy Street, and grew oranges which were second to none in the State. Three sons enlisted for service in the A.I.F., two paying the supreme sacrifice. The late Thomas Worthington was 74 years of age when the call came.

Mr Edward Worthington, who passed away recently, was a well-known resident of the Condobolin district. He was seventy-eight years of age, was born at Goulburn, and educated at St Stanislaus’ College, Bathurst. Deceased was married on April 30, 1879, to Miss Catherine Teresa Barry, by the late Father J. Dunne, later Bishop of Bathurst. For over forty years Mr Worthington had followed grazing pursuits in the Condbolin district, where he possessed a large circle of friends. In his younger years, Mr Worthington had been interested in many sporting activities and was a keen follower of cricket. For the past three years, the deceased gentleman had not enjoyed good health, and during this time he received great consolation from the regular visits of Rev. Fathers F. Griffin, O.F.M., and A. Grealy, O.F.M. Father P. O’Brien, O.F.M., administered the Last Sacraments, and also celebrated Requiem Mass at Mary Immaculate Church, Waverley. The funeral left the church after Mass for the family grave at Rookwood, where Father O’Brien recited the prayers. Mr Worthington’s wife predeceased him in 1933, and he is survived by Messrs. E.B., V.G.L.B., and T.B. Worthington (sons), and Mesdames C. B. Murray, W.T. Rennix, and K. Clifton (daughters). Others present included Mr W.T. Rennix (son-in-law), and Mesdames H. Quirk, G. Dowsley, J. Duggan, and A. Mclnnes (nieces). The funeral arrangements wore conducted by W.N. Bull Pty Ltd.
